Are You Trying To Put Out A Forest Fire With A Garden Hose?

I know many people try to get sponsors for their speaking or podcasting by using the ‘spray and pray’ approach.

And that’s a lot like attempting to put out a forest fire using a dribbling garden hose.

It’s not effective and is just a bad situation in the making. Here’s why:

1. Simply, No Two Companies Are Alike:

What one company needs, the other might not. Company A might have a hole in their marketing budget to fill, while the other business is simply looking for a way to expand their brand awareness.

You can’t address those needs in a one-size-fits-all proposal.

2. Generic = Garbage Can

If there’s no pop, zest, or sizzle with your proposal, then it’s generic. A generic proposal is really a warning sign to a sponsor. It shouts “gimmie, gimmie!”

By developing your own proposal for each and every business, you show your own thoughtfulness and also ability to stay ahead of the crowd.

3. Whenever You Assume….

You know that old saying about what happens when you “assume” right? When you assume all businesses have exactly the same wants, you totally discredit their motivations.

If you are not worried about precisely what a business needs, then explain to me precisely why should they bother with what you need?

4. Rugged Reputations:

After you have presented a blanket sponsorship proposal to each and every business you can imagine, you instantly get the negative reputation which comes along with it. Believe me, as someone who has selected individuals to sponsor for a major corporation, we talk to our competitors.

In the long run, it is more productive to take time to craft a proposal which works for every company rather than attempt to make up for the bitter taste you place in their mouth using a blanket proposal.

5. How Would YOU Feel?

Pretend you are the company receiving this generic proposal. It likely doesn’t fit with your vision and the proposal isn’t that creative in order to try to fit the needs of many.

You’re just being used for your cash. Precisely what would you do?

Sponsorships are great to have, however they do take a bit of work to make them happen. Take some time and write each proposal with just a little creativeness and also individuality. Your own efforts will pay in the end.

Still feel like finding and getting sponsors is out of reach for you and your business? It’s not “unachievable” when you have a solid plan and approach.

That’s why I am helping speakers and podcasters exclusively with my Get Sponsored Mastermind.

I will show you the secret to getting paid for every speech you make before you even set foot on stage! Or every episode of your podcast before it’s in the can.
